Oregonians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty

OADP is a non-profit organization with 501(c)3 status. We are criminal justice activists joined in a concerted effort to increase the effectiveness of Oregon’s response to violent interpersonal crime. Our members include victims’ survivors, attorneys, religious leaders, teachers and other concerned citizens. To help us end capital punishment in Oregon, please make a generous donation today.

Let's Talk About the Death Penalty

From the lynching of Alonzo Tucker in 1902 through inmates on death row today, we believe the death penalty is the least effective treatment. OADP supports the redirection of the millions of dollars wasted each year pursuing the death penalty to victims’ support and proven violence prevention programs.

“The Sikhs of Oregon believe that equality is violated when we practice the death penalty. Sikhism believes in peaceful living, forgiveness and reconciliation. We believe that conflict can be resolved by talking to a person.”

“Depriving a person of the possibility of reconciliation with God and humanity is what happens when the death penalty is applied. We want the death penalty to be abolished, it has no place in our justice system.”

“As momentum builds across the country to end capital punishment, bishops and other church leaders are joining coalitions, testifying before legislators and publicly demonstrating their opposition to the death penalty.”

Rt. Reverend Michael J. Hanley Bishop

“Killing the criminal only reveals our weakness, we surrender, we don't know what to do anymore. We give up, that is a cry of despair when you have to kill people. True justice must have compassion and understanding.”
